Self-care is not selfishness. Self-care is what gets us through times like we are in now. Self-care helps us contribute to the Greater Good. I believe that our bodies and minds are a temple, an energetic and physical expression of Love, and our job is to honor it and care for it, so we are able to shine our brightest light into the world.
Self-care is important because it slows us down, moving the focus off of outside events, even for a short while. This release enables us to recognize that we can make a difference in the world, by beginning with ourselves. I believe that the ripple of love for oneself, will radiate and affect others in our lives and consequently, to the whole world, one small act of kindness at a time! Taking time for ourselves helps us show up as a better person, with love and gratitude in our heart, which can’t help but influence our interactions with others throughout the day. The ripple effect that it has on others continues far beyond that which we will ever know or imagine. One small act of kindness needs to start with how we treat ourselves through word and action; this will lead us to treat others with the same lovingkindness that they deserve.
Self-care doesn’t have to be going to the spa for a facial or massage (although those are wonderful). ☺ It is anything that we do to honor and enhance the well-being of our body, mind, and spirit. Maybe it is as simple as whispering “Thank you” to yourself when your eyes first open in the morning? You have been given another day! Maybe you pause for 5 minutes when you first wake up to envision your day unfolding beautifully before you grab your phone or begin your day, trusting that all will work out in your favor? Self-care can be choosing healthy and nourishing foods. Self-care can be sitting with your cup of coffee or tea, really savoring the taste and smell, without any outside distractions. In future posts, I will share some other ideas to help you feel more grounded and more alive. Self-care has gotten me through many of life’s challenges, and now, more than ever, I believe we could all use a little love and compassion, beginning with how we treat ourselves, so we can treat others with the loving-kindness they deserve, and witness that beautiful ripple effect.
Sending love and light!
